Eight: Favourite Mission
Stop The Collectors
It’s probably the most expected answer, but Mass Effect 2’s final mission was definitely my favourite out of the entirety of the two games. Although Mass Effect had a bunch of great missions, and the final mission was fun, it just didn’t seem quite as focused. The suicide mission is mentioned from the very beginning of Mass Effect 2. Everything you do is just working towards heading through the Omega 4 relay and storming the collector base. Once you get there, and take your entire squad down (hopefully!), it just gets so real.
The decisions Shepard has to make in the final mission are intense. Send Legion or Tali through the vents? Should Miranda lead the alternate squad, or Garrus? Is it okay to send Jacob back with the remaining (sorry, Yeoman Chambers) crew? Can Samara hold the biotic field, or would Jack be a better choice? I love how this mission really highlights Shepard’s position as commander. Making all the tough decisions, deciding who should perform what tasks, and having the squad’s fate rest on your shoulders.
Coupled with gaining their loyalty and really getting to know all of your squadmates, this mission proves tough. I was on edge about losing a squad member the entire time. I ended up making it through almost perfectly - my entire squad survived, but I didn’t manage to rescue a good chunk of the Normandy’s crew. Plus, I got to blow up the collector base, much to the chagrin of the Illlusive Man. Making him angry makes me kind of happy.
